The Power of Health Promotion for Global Health

A sizable fraction of the world’s population is afflicted by non-communicable diseases. The World Health Organization estimates that these diseases kill 41 million people yearly, accounting for 71% of all deaths globally. To promote health and avoid disease, disability, and early death through education-driven voluntary behaviour change activities, the behavioural social science of health promotion draws on the biological, environmental, psychological, physical, and medical disciplines.

Health Promotion: What Is It?

Benefits of Health Promotion Programs

Health promotion is an act of Implementing strategies to give people more control over and a better understanding of their health. Instead of just concentrating on treatment and cure, it aims to address and prevent the underlying causes of sickness.

Modern Initiatives for Promoting Public Health

Most health promotion initiatives today are led by the WHO and other nongovernmental organizations, and they generally revolve around three key ideas:

Medical literacy:

Access to reliable scientific references that help people and families make healthy decisions should be a right. Additionally, they must be able to live in a setting where they can support new government initiatives to advance health.

Healthy cities:

The promotion of health is a special responsibility of city administrations Urban planning, advocating preventive measures, and creating new medical facilities are just a few examples of how the support of the city leadership is essential for good health.

Good governance for health:

Government leaders must take into account citizens’ health when making decisions on how to run the country, and such policies must be reinforced by regulations that emphasize the value of good health.

Health Promotion Programs Can Save Lives and Save Money:

The promotion of health is crucial for societal development as well as for reducing the toll that illness takes on individuals. Additionally, these endeavours could be economical. The WHO predicted that prioritized interventions for the prevention and control of noncommunicable diseases would generate at least a $7 return on investment by 2030 in a report from 2018. That assessment takes into consideration the fact that avoiding fatalities from noncommunicable diseases would result in an increase in the labour force, which would aid in economic expansion.

What is the importance of health promotion?

  • The health status of people, families, communities, states, and the country is improved by health promotion.
  • Everybody’s quality of life is improved via health promotion.
  • Premature deaths can be decreased through health promotion.

Health promotion decreases the financial and human costs that people, employers, families, insurance companies, healthcare facilities, communities, the state, and the country might incur from paying for medical treatment by putting a strong emphasis on prevention.

Telehealth: 5 Ways to Enhance Patient’s experience and Outcomes

By giving patients the tools they need to take an active role in their health, telehealth helps to increase patient’s experience and outcomes. Instead of providing care only temporarily, it gives physicians the means to work together and build relationships with their patients. A value-based care paradigm may be successful in part because of cutting-edge technological approaches like telehealth and remote patient monitoring. Here are five ways that a telehealth program can enhance patient outcomes.

Reduction of healthcare barriers:

Taking time off work, paying for daycare, and working out how to get to and from a doctor’s visit can all be barriers that keep many individuals from getting care, especially those who live in impoverished regions. These obstacles are considerably lessened via telehealth. Additionally, by lowering viral exposure in clinic waiting rooms and for care that does not require a physical examination, including mental health services, telehealth may lessen patient anxiety in vulnerable populations like the immunocompromised and for those who are receiving care.

An added convenience:

Best healthcare professional’s services

The absence of the need for a patient to leave their home and the time-saving benefits of not having to drive to a medical appointment and sit in a waiting room are two benefits of receiving healthcare virtually. Convenient access to care paired with digital tools will be a key differentiation in a crowded market and a crucial aspect of the patient’s experience as healthcare consumers grow more informed. Telehealth can be used for some less serious urgent care requirements, prescription administration, remote monitoring, and other chances to quickly link patients to the treatment they require digitally.

Improved care consistency:

Periodic telehealth check-ins can help patients who are recovering from a longer-lasting sickness or accident or those with chronic conditions when an in-person visit may not be necessary. The importance of this extra care, especially when it’s combined with remote patient monitoring, cannot be overstated in terms of ensuring that conditions are effectively managed in between in-person visits. Telehealth and in-person visits can both be more beneficial for the patient if a practitioner has access to crucial health information like blood pressure measurements.

Enhanced bond with the provider:

When healthcare professionals visit patients in their homes, they are better able to comprehend their lives outside of the clinic. It might enable them to provide care that is more comprehensive and takes into account both the external environment and the medical information that is supplied. In an environment where they feel at ease, patients might feel more at ease disclosing personal information.

Better access to experts:

It can be challenging to get appointments with subspecialists. The dearth of specialists in each sub-specialty is one factor. Another is the fact that these service providers are frequently found in urban regions and sizable university environments. A rheumatologist, for example, may require a patient from a rural area to drive for several hours to see them. When scheduling an appointment is difficult, telehealth can not only increase access to a bigger pool of physicians but also ease the load on patients’ travel time.

are on a rampage.

The importance of good diet, exercise and weight control – Are they alone enough to prevent diseases?

Dealing with bad habits, drug addiction, smoking and alcoholism?

How best to deal with emotional issues?

‘The biomedical model of health’ explains the role of certain biological determinants and explains disease as a condition caused by external pathogens or disorders in the functions of organs and body systems. Now that chronic non-infectious diseases prevail, its efficacy has not only become questionable, but also the issue has been raised of its economic justification. “The status of the “Biopsychosocial” Model in health psychology is contested and arguably exists in a stage of infancy. Despite original goals, medical research has developed theoretical and empirical integrations across bio-psycho-social domains only to a limited extent. Overall, a multilevel integrative or “holistic” perspective is advanced to strengthen the Biopsychosocial Model for use within health psychology and biomedical research. Therefore, the 6D of health has included not just the physical, social, familial, emotional, but also the spiritual and mental domains of health. This concept provides a more comprehensive approach to the ‘biopsychosocial model of health’.

Cream Stone Chronic Disease Model

One of the great beast of this century is the increased incidence of chronic diseases and the challenges they present not just to the NHS but worldwide. It is estimated that in Great Britain more that 17 million people may be living with a chronic disease. By 2030, the estimate is that the incidence of chronic disease in the over 65s will more than double. Chronic diseases are those that can only be treated and not, at present, cured. They include diabetes, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma, arthritis, dementia and a range of disabling neurological conditions. The people with chronic diseases have increased demand for health care services in secondary and emergency care – waiting lists, demand, workforce, improving other services and prescribing.

At Cream Stone Healthcare, we believe

  • Using multidisciplinary teams
  • Identifying patients with chronic disease
  • Integrating specialist and generalist expertise
  • Integrating care across organisational boundaries
  • Aiming to minimise unnecessary visits and admissions
  • Stratifying patients by risk
  • Involving patients in their own care
  • Co-ordinating care (using case-managers)
  • Use of good IT (information systems) to access key data on individuals and populations

The key principles of this model include:

  • Mobilising community resources to meet the needs of people with long-term conditions,
  • creating a culture, organisation, and mechanisms that promote safe, high quality care,
  • Empowering and preparing people to manage their health and healthcare,
  • Delivering effective, efficient care and self-management support,
  • Promoting care that is consistent with research evidence and patient preferences,
  • And organising patient and population data to facilitate efficient and effective care.
